FUN CLUB BRISTOL

At the beginning of 2004 some members of staff in the Barbara Russell Children's Unit in Frenchay Hospital decided to set up a charity to support children and the families of children who had been patients of the Neurosciences Team in Frenchay Hospital. In May 2014 the Neuro Unit rellocated to Bristol Children's Hospital.

OUR AIMS

-To continue to support patients of the Neurology Team at the Bristol Children’s Hospital with their ongoing recovery.
-To provide opportunities for children and families to meet up with others who have had similar experiences.
-To help families to stay in touch with the Hospital teams.

How do we hope to achieve this?
By offering a range of recreational activities for our past and present neuro patients and their families.

This allows everyone involved to -Exchange ideas
Exchange experiences
Meet old Friends
-Make new friends
-Have Fun

Many FUN Club members are still going through extensive treatments that can often be traumatic. The aims above provide all concerned with some brief respite and inject some normality and fun into their lives.

Why have FUN club members been in hospital?
The Bristol Children’s Hospital is the Southwest’s Regional Centre for Neurosciences. These are some of the common conditions in the unit:
-Brain tumours
-Head Injuries
-Brain haemorrhages
-Hydrocephalus
-Epilepsy
-Encephalitis
-Cerebral palsy
.... and many more!

For young people suffering with the more unusual conditions, this may be the only means of contact for them and their families to meet others with a similar condition. This can allow these families to provide each other with support.
